Kitchen SOP Template Pack: A Printable System for Restaurant Kitchens

If you have ever had to leave your restaurant for a day and come back to find three things done wrong, you already know the problem. It is not your staff. It is that nothing is written down anywhere they can actually see it mid shift.

That is what a kitchen SOP template is supposed to fix. Not a binder that sits in the office. Something posted at the station, filled in by hand, and actually used.

We built one. Here is what is in it and why it works the way it does.

What a Kitchen SOP Template Should Actually Do

Most kitchen manuals fail for one reason. They get written once, printed, and filed away. Nobody opens them again until there is a problem.

A kitchen SOP template only works if it lives where the work happens. That means it has to be simple enough to fill out with a pen during a rush, specific enough that a new hire can follow it without asking ten questions, and built around how a real kitchen actually runs, not how it looks in a training video.

That is the standard we held this pack to. Every page had to earn its spot. If it did not help someone on the line get through a shift cleaner, it did not make the cut.

What Is Inside the Kitchen SOP Template Pack

The pack is twelve pages, and every page is built to be printed and posted, not read once and forgotten.

Opening Procedures. Equipment checks, a temperature log with a spot to write down what you did if something is out of range, prep list confirmation, and a walk in inspection. This is the page that sets the tone for the whole shift.

Station Setup SOPs. Four core stations, each with its own page. Grill and saute, prep and cold, fry, and expo and pass. Each one covers the opening checklist, a blank spot for the owner to fill in their own mise en place list, the critical steps in order, one common mistake to watch for, and how to clean as you go instead of leaving it all for close.

Food Safety and Allergen Handling. This is the page that ties the whole kitchen together. It covers cross contamination at a kitchen wide level, how an allergen flag moves from the ticket to the line to the plate, a quick reference for the temperature danger zone, and exactly what to do if a mistake happens after the fact.

Closing Procedures. Breakdown checklist, a waste log, storage and labeling for anything left over, and a note field for whatever the next shift needs to know.

Training Sign Off Log. A simple table that proves training happened. Useful for onboarding, and useful if you ever need to show a health inspector or an insurance company that your team was actually trained on something.

Blank Custom SOP Template. For the stations we did not cover. Bar, dessert, or anything specific to your menu. Same format, left blank so you can build it yourself.

It is designed to print in black and white, since that is how most small kitchens actually print things. No wasted color ink, no pages that only make sense on a screen.

Who This Kitchen SOP Template Is For

This is built for independent restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and food trucks. If you are running a single location without a dedicated ops team, and you are the one who ends up rewriting the same instructions every time you hire someone new, this pack saves you that work.

It is not a theory document. There is no chapter on leadership philosophy. It is meant to be printed, handed to a new hire, and used on their first shift.

Why We Built This

We spend most of our time inside restaurant kitchens fixing exactly the kind of problems this pack is meant to prevent. Menus that do not match the POS. Staff who were never actually trained, just shown once and left to figure it out. Food safety steps that live in someone’s head instead of on a wall.

A lot of that comes down to the same root issue. There is no system, so everything depends on the owner being there. That gets exhausting fast, and it does not scale.

This pack will not fix everything on its own. It handles the kitchen SOP side of things. If you need help further than that, whether that is menu engineering, POS setup, online ordering, or getting your Google Business Profile actually working for you, that is what we do at NawaOps. Reach out here if that is where you are at.
